Submission Types

The goal of all submissions to CAC grading is to have the coin assigned a grade and encapsulated in a CAC grading holder. Below are the different paths or forms a submission can take.

Grading submissions: Grading for a raw coin is one of the most common submission types. This process involves sending "raw" (uncertified) coins to CAC Grading to be evaluated for condition, authenticity and other deciding factors to determine what grade it should receive. Please keep in mind that there are three categories a coin can fall under once graded:

-Numeric Grade: This can also be referred to as "straight grading". This is when the coin is given a grade on the Sheldon scale from 1-70.

-Details Grade: This is when a coin is considered authentic but cannot be given a numeric grade typically because of surface conditions. This could be because of cleaning, altered surfaces, tooled surfaces or an array of other factors.

-Unholdered/Return Ungraded: This is typically when a coin is counterfeit, PVC is present or we cannot accurately authenticate the coin.Grading fees will still apply.

Crossover submissions: Crossover submissions are used when you have a coin that has already been graded by one grading service and you want it graded by another. The coin is sent in its current holder to the new grading service which will evaluate it and assign a grade. The goal of crossover submissions is to have the coin graded by a different service to potentially obtain a higher grade or a different certification label. CAC Grading will only accept PCGS and NGC coins for crossover.

Legacy Crossover submissions: Legacy Crossover submissions are for any coin that has been CAC stickered and you want it crossed into a CAC grading holder.

Reholder submissions: This service can be utilized if you have a CAC Holder that is damaged or you would like to add on a service like high resolution imaging or the variety service. Please note, the coin will not be reevaluated for a higher grade.

Reconsideration submissions: If you are not satisfied with the grade assigned to your coin by CAC Grading, you may submit it for reconsideration. Reconsideration submissions involve resubmitting the coin for re-evaluation and grading. Please keep in mind with this service, you pay the full grading fees and any other fees associated with a submission and your coin may not receive a higher grade.

Submission Tiers

Please Note: You will be charged for the submission tier you have selected (based on the declared value) or a higher tier if the calculated value is higher than the tier you selected.  The calculated value is based on third party pricing available on our website.

For insurance purposes, we will insure your coins at their declared value until a calculated value is available.  For determining the cost of return shipping and insurance, we will use the higher of the declared value or calculated value for each coin.

Providing an accurate declared value is the best way to avoid changes by CAC or potential questions over insured amounts. Follow this link to find suggestions on how to best estimate your coin's value.
